XB Fairmont

Finally managed to catch up with Gary, one of our earliest registrees, and get some information and photos about his car.

In his own words.

1974 Ford Falcon XB Fairmont

First registered in England 03/05/74

I bought the car in November 1995, I ran around in it for 1 year before taking it off the road to do bit of welding for its M.o.T.

It turned out to be a lot more welding than I first thought. The fact that I kept buying other cars and moving house made it a very very slow process.

The car originally came with a 302 V8 & a 3 speed auto. After blowing a hole in a piston, I found that the bottom end of the motor had been replaced at some point with a 351. the gearbox then let go so was replaced with a 4 speed toploader

The idea when I bought the car was to build a Mad Max replica, that’s where the rear spoiler and flared arches come into play. At current progress Mad Max 10 will be released before I get it finished!

When it came from the factory it was painted copper bronze metallic with a vinyl roof. When I got it, it had been painted a lovely (yuk) yellow. So off come the vinyl roof and it was painted satin black for that mean look.

Gary’s part-time career as one of our more successful Street Racer Championship competitors - with his 5.0 FI MkIII Capri - has meant progress on the car has been slow, but promises have been made to try and get back into it.
